Experimental Archaeology

Our programs include:

Lithic Knapping: This program run by Dr. Kumar Akhilesh, focuses on replicating technological strategies ranging in age from the Acheulian to the microlithic. Based on our archaeological excavated artefacts, we explore different techniques used, implications of raw materials chosen, and reduction sequences. We investigate issues related to prehistoric cognition and decisions made in tool manufacture.

We are in the process of initiating new programs on edge-wear and residue analysis on lithics, details of which will soon be online.

Programs for archaeologists and the interested public are being initiated from May 2013. Participants who wish to take part in one of our workshops, should contact Dr. Kumar Akhilesh ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).

We are initiating other projects in experimental studies and traditional technology. Watch this space for more news !
